Volunteer With Us!

Looking for an adventure? We have lots of animals in need of your help!

Visiting vet med volunteers play an important role in keeping our clinic functioning.

 

However, it is important to note a few key things before committing!

  • We are FAR away from the mainland U.S. 

  • Plane tickets are expensive

  • You will have basically no diagnostics

  • Accommodations are simple

  • Power outages happen

  • Cockroaches happen

  • Mold happens

  • Life is slower here in general, but clinic is NOT!

Visiting DVM Volunteers

We welcome adventurous veterinarians to volunteer at our clinic when funding and scheduling allows.

​

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years DVM experience 

  • Able to make decisions with limited diagnostics 

  • Proficient in difficult large adult dog spays 

    • Spays are often in heat or pregnant​

    • Tick disease is prevalent and surgeries tend to bleed quite a bit!

  • Comfortable with doing amputations, enucleations, mass removals

  • Strong sense of open-mindedness and understanding regarding how pets might be cared for across cultures

Licensing

Getting your DVM license in the CNMI is a simple process.

 

In order to apply, you must:

1. Have graduated from an AVMA accredited veterinary school in the United States

2. Hold an active DVM license in another U.S. state or territory

Veterinary Technician Volunteers

We love hosting veterinary technician volunteers. Whether you are part of a DVM/LVT team or traveling solo, we can keep you busy. 

​

Requirements:

  • At least 2 years Veterinary Technician experience 

  • Skilled in handling anxious and/or feral cats and dogs safely

  • ​Proficiency in IV placement, intubation, blood draws, and surgical monitoring

  • Ability to obtain patient history and present to the virtual or visiting DVM

  • Strong sense of open-mindedness and understanding regarding how pets might be cared for across cultures

​

Licensure is not required for veterinary technicians in the CNMI at this time.

Virtual DVM Volunteers 

When there is no visiting veterinarian, we rely on virtual veterinarians to support our team in caring for sick patients through WhatsApp messaging. A typical "shift" runs from 930am - 330pm ChST.

 

A Typical Shift:​

  • Sick patients are evaluated by clinic staff

  • Clinic staff presents the sick patient to you via WhatsApp message and provides any photos/videos

  • You provide guidance on further steps to take (e.g. more specific physical exam instructions, questions for owner, etc)

  • You provide a care plan
