ABOUT
ABOUT US

Improving animal welfare through access to animal healthcare.

Saipan is a small U.S. Commonwealth island in the Pacific with no resident veterinarian. Saipan Humane Society was founded to change that through affordable veterinary services provided by a small, skilled team guided by visiting or virtual volunteer veterinarians.

As you can imagine, running a clinic on Saipan presents unique challenges. We are committed to overcoming these challenges to ensure pets in our community receive care.

Our Story

In 2022, Lauren Cabrera and Ruby Ma met while volunteering at a spay/neuter clinic on Saipan. What began as a plan to host occasional veterinary clinics quickly grew into something much larger. When one of the island's existing animal welfare organizations suddenly closed, hundreds of animals lost access to care. Saipan Humane Society stepped in—and has continued growing ever since.

Today, SHS operates a community veterinary clinic, hosts visiting veterinarians, provides disaster response, and works to improve animal welfare across the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
